TANAZ BHATHENA (she/her)
Creative Writing - 2008
What brought you to Humber and your program of study?
I joined Humber's Creative Writing by Correspondence program to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a published writer.
What was your favourite Humber memory or experience?
The graduation ceremony, where I got to meet my classmates in the program.
What was Humber's greatest impact on your personal and professional life?
The foundational lessons I learned during my time at Humber with creative writing mentors MG Vassanji and Lauren B. Davis form the backbone of my writing craft today. From 2018 to 2023, I wrote and published several award-winning YA books with Farrar Straus Giroux and Penguin Canada.
What are you up to now?
I am excited to say that I am now transitioning to adult fantasy with a new book, Witch Daughter, which releases on September 22, 2026. The book is a retelling of Persian mythology about Tahmineh, a wife, mother, and rumoured witch who desperately tries to stop a tragic prophecy in which her husband and son will kill each other on the battlefield.
What else do you want to share (e.g. Memorable trip; If you had a superpower; Favourite food or coffee shop; Personal and professional interests; Awards and recognition; Other milestones)?
I was born in India and raised in Saudi Arabia and Canada. As a third-culture kid, I've always loved travelling and discovering new places and cultures. My most memorable trip was a solo excursion to Barcelona and Granada, where I discovered my love for museums and ancient historical monuments.
