SHAWAYNE DUNSTAN
Hospitality - Hotel and Restaurant Operations Management - 2021
What brought you to Humber and your program of study?
I worked my first job at a restaurant named Chaska. They wanted to make me a manager, but they wanted me to go to school first. I researched and chose the Hotel and Restaurant Operations Management program with Kristy Adams which propelled me to a fruitful career and lifestyle in Banff, Alberta.
What was your favourite Humber memory or experience?
My favourite Humber experience was running and winning a Board of Director position. Over 1,000 students voted for me after I connected with them authentically through conversations - no posters. It was beautiful seeing what the power of advocacy could bring, and the confidence I gained in the role made me a kinder person.
What was Humber's greatest impact on your personal and professional life?
Humber set me up with reasoning skills and helped me grow intellectually.
What are you up to now?
Humber connected me with my current employer, Fairmont Banff Springs, which eventually led to me meeting my partner and being able to publish poetry books and travel.
What else do you want to share (e.g. Memorable trip; If you had a superpower; Favourite food or coffee shop; Personal and professional interests; Awards and recognition; Other milestones)?
I just published my twelfth poetry book titled Rise of Shaweezy on June 30, 2025.
I also have an apparel and merchandise brand named Shaweezy, which means light in the darkness.
I do spoken word performances around Banff and the Bow Valley. My books are available at Indigo, Apple Books, Amazon, and more. I have also launched a website, Shawaynedunstan.com
I would just like to thank all the faculty, students and peers at Humber that shaped me into the person I am. I discovered many things about myself while in post-secondary. Thank you for believing in me and giving me a chance to shine.
