LAWRENCE DUSHENSKI

Journalism-Advanced (Broadcast) - 2012

What brought you to Humber and your program of study?

I had just finished an undergraduate degree in Sport Management at Brock, and was looking to start a career in sports media.

What was your favourite Humber memory or experience?

Getting to cover the Men's Basketball team for the Humber News and write about the team on a weekly basis. Had the great experience of travelling to Sault Ste. Marie for provincial finals, where Humber won.

What was Humber's greatest impact on your personal and professional life?

It got me started on my career in media, and taught me how to be careful with words. Both written and spoken. One time when I was reading the news on Humber radio, I read a script talking about Stouffville. I am from Alberta and had never heard of Stouffville, so I pronounced it "Stuff-ville". Apparently everyone listening found that hilarious, much to my dismay.

What are you up to now?

I spent 5 years working for TSN after graduating from Humber. I then went to law school, and have been working as a lawyer since 2021.

What else do you want to share (e.g. Memorable trip; If you had a superpower; Favourite food or coffee shop; Personal and professional interests; Awards and recognition; Other milestones)?

I had the honour of winning the George Gross Journalism Award in 2011, and got to attend a gala along with other award recipients.
