Wellness Coaching - 2023

What brought you to Humber and your program of study?

After graduating from FHP in 2018, I found myself in a place many graduates can relate to: I didn’t have a job lined up, and I was asking myself, “Now what?” That uncertainty slowly turned into anxiety, and I felt stuck and unsure of my next steps.

Then, in 2020, when COVID-19 hit, everything felt even more overwhelming. During that difficult time, I made a decision that changed everything for me—I chose to go back to school and enrolled in Humber's Wellness Coaching certificate program. I’ve always been passionate about wellness and helping others achieve their goals, so when I discovered the program, it felt like the right fit and a meaningful way to move forward.

What was your favourite Humber memory or experience?

One of my favourite Humber experiences was participating in the Global Skills Opportunity (GSO) program after completing the Wellness Coaching program. The GSO is a government-funded initiative that supports students who face financial barriers or have disabilities to study abroad, and I was fortunate to be part of it.

That experience opened my eyes to the value of global learning—being exposed to different cultures, perspectives, and ways of life. It was incredibly impactful and taught me how powerful cross-cultural experiences can be in building connection, understanding, and opportunity, both personally and globally.

What was Humber's greatest impact on your personal and professional life?

Humber’s greatest impact on my life was helping me rediscover my confidence and sense of direction at a time when I felt lost. Before going back to school, I felt like nothing was working out and that everything was falling apart. Choosing Humber and the Wellness Coaching program gave me structure, purpose, and a space to grow.

Professionally, Humber opened doors I hadn’t even imagined—like the GSO program and the chance to explore global learning. Personally, it helped me strengthen my belief in myself, deepen my passion for wellness and helping others, and realize that non-linear paths are still valid and meaningful.

What are you up to now?

Today, I’ve found my path in a place I didn’t expect: the skilled trades. I’m currently working at a roofing company, and it has turned out to be a great fit for me. It’s hands-on, challenging, and different from what I first pictured for myself, but it aligns with where I am in life and what I need right now.

It’s funny how life works—there are so many twists and turns, and sometimes the path you end up on isn’t the one you originally imagined. My journey from FHP to Humber to global learning and then into the trades has shown me the value of staying open to unexpected opportunities.

What else do you want to share (e.g. Memorable trip; If you had a superpower; Favourite food or coffee shop; Personal and professional interests; Awards and recognition; Other milestones)?

If there’s one piece of advice I’d like to share, it’s this: keep believing in yourself. Even when things feel uncertain or overwhelming, trust that you will find your way, just like I eventually did. Stay open, keep going, and don’t be afraid to try something new—even if it’s completely different from what you originally had in mind.

And in case you haven’t heard it lately, let me be the one to say: you are brilliant, and you are enough. That’s something I had to learn on my own journey, and it’s a message I hope others can hold on to in theirs.
