HILARY WELCH

Broadcasting-Radio Certificate - 2005

What brought you to Humber and your program of study?

After finishing an undergraduate degree in music, I ended up working at a radio station. I immediately knew this was the gateway into my future full-time career, where I could learn skills that could take me into different parts of the arts and media space. Because of Humber's proximity to Toronto, I was also excited to have access to faculty currently working in the industry I wanted to be a part of.

What was your favourite Humber memory or experience?

Late nights in the labs and studios along side my classmates, completely engrossed in our projects. We were a close-knit group for a post-grad program.

What was Humber's greatest impact on your personal and professional life?

Humber was the gateway to my future career. The professors had high expectations, but if you worked hard to meet them, they would go the extra mile to introduce you to the industry professionals who could change your life. One of my profs sent me to job shadow with a friend of his for a day, and I came home with my first job.

What are you up to now?

Remarkably, I am still working in media. I started as an audio engineer, got into media programming and podcasting and now work on-air in London, ON. The diversity of skills I learned at Humber and the work ethic that was instilled in us has helped me to keep adapting as the industry does.

What else do you want to share (e.g. Memorable trip; If you had a superpower; Favourite food or coffee shop; Personal and professional interests; Awards and recognition; Other milestones)?
