ERIN DECOSTE

Journalism-Advanced (Print) - 2010

What brought you to Humber and your program of study?

I chose Humber after I found myself unsure what to do upon graduating from the University of Toronto with an Honours BA in English and Political Science. I was working at the university while volunteering at the radio station there. I realized I really enjoyed journalism and media. After researching several schools, Humber's Post-Graduate Journalism program seemed to make the most sense.

What was your favourite Humber memory or experience?

I was fortunate to attend a trip to New York City for the 2010 College Media Advisers and Columbia Scholastic Press Association Convention. It was amazing representing Humber and we had an amazing time together.

What was Humber's greatest impact on your personal and professional life?

The friends I made at Humber are still in my life, and I love following their careers and adventures. I was able to live on Vancouver Island right after graduating to work for a small newspaper and then on to both CBC and CTV in Toronto before switching to communications and marketing.

What are you up to now?

I am a Business Development Manager at RBC Place London, the convention centre in London, ON. I love my job, and even though it's not journalism, I use the skills I gained at Humber daily. From writing emails and asking clients what they need to networking at galas, my experience and education developed at Humber helped me grow and excel in my career.

What else do you want to share (e.g. Memorable trip; If you had a superpower; Favourite food or coffee shop; Personal and professional interests; Awards and recognition; Other milestones)?

As part of my job, I have the immense privilege of traveling within Canada and getting to experience this country's amazing beauty and very cool people. My goal is to get to every province and territory!
