EMILY QUINT (She/her)
Née AgerAddictions and Mental Health - 2021
What brought you to Humber and your program of study?
I started the Addictions and Mental Health postgraduate certificate in January 2020, right after finishing my Master of Education at the University of Toronto. I was looking for something more hands-on, more heart-centered—something rooted in healing rather than theory. At the time, I was still untangling the threads of my own story, still learning how to hold both survival and purpose. I wasn’t ready to dive into the workforce just yet. I wanted to understand mental health and addictions on a deeper level, especially as someone with lived experience.
What was your favourite Humber memory or experience?
Even though we only had about two and a half months in person before COVID changed everything, those early days meant so much. Because our cohort had every class together, we bonded quickly. On Wednesdays, when we had a longer break, we’d gather in L Building—spreading out, sharing snacks, laughing, venting, just being real with each other. It felt so good to be in it together. That sense of connection carried us through, even when our screens became the classroom.
What was Humber's greatest impact on your personal and professional life?
Humber helped me connect who I am with how I want to show up in the world. I left with more than just knowledge; I left with a deeper sense of self. It was the first academic space where I felt like my story didn’t make me less qualified to help others. It actually prepared me. That shift in perspective has shaped how I advocate, how I write, and how I hope to one day practice as a therapist.
What are you up to now?
I’m currently completing my Master of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University and growing Emily Finds Healing, a platform I created to support others navigating trauma, grief, and becoming. I also recently published my memoir, My Sunflower Soul, which shares my story of living through mental illness, cancer, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and pregnancy loss—and slowly finding my way back to light.
What else do you want to share (e.g. Memorable trip; If you had a superpower; Favourite food or coffee shop; Personal and professional interests; Awards and recognition; Other milestones)?
I believe healing begins with softness, slowness, and the courage to feel. I’m passionate about creating spaces where people can show up authentically and don’t have to hide their hurt to be seen. I’m also a lover of sunsets, cozy playlists, meaningful conversations, and gluten-free snacks that don’t taste like cardboard.
