What brought you to Humber and your program of study?

I originally had a diploma in Early Childhood Education and wanted to upgrade it to a degree. With the program that Guelph-Humber offered, I was still able to keep working in my field and complete my degree.

When I attended, my program was half online and half in class, which was super helpful.

What was your favourite Humber memory or experience?

Meeting all my classmates and hearing their stories about why they were upgrading their education in our field. I made many new friends and connections that I will forever cherish. I feel it’s always good to network and connect with others in our profession, for you never know what opportunities can arise in the future.

What was Humber's greatest impact on your personal and professional life?

I was able to apply myself to upgrade my education in my field. It was also good to educate myself on the business side of how I can use my degree in ways beyond teaching in the classroom.

What are you up to now?

I have been working in the field for the past 20 years. For the past 11 years, I have been an Early Childhood Educator in the FDK program with the Toronto District School Board. In the past three years, I’ve also become a children’s book author, creating a series called The Adventures of the Junior Detectives that focuses on science and nature. I was able to use my ECE background when creating my books, making them interactive and educational, so children feel like they are part of the adventure. I currently have two books published in my series.

What else do you want to share (e.g. Memorable trip; If you had a superpower; Favourite food or coffee shop; Personal and professional interests; Awards and recognition; Other milestones)?

Becoming an author has been an amazing experience. I’m able to teach outside of the classroom and continue to thrive in my career as an Early Childhood Educator.

I have done many book signings throughout the GTA, and many people have recognized that I am an Early Childhood Educator, which is a huge compliment.
